All that glitches is not gold
solo exhibition, 3-30 November 2022
Wentworth Point Community Centre & Library, supported by PAS Open Digital residency
All that glitches is not gold investigates ghosts of generations past, glitches in the matrix, social mobility and the afterlife. In this exhibition, Celine stages a visual ballad of her family’s migration, told through Gothic landscapes and liminal spaces, with a touch of magical realism.
While searching for glitches in this picture-perfect suburb, Celine discovers local sites that parallel her family’s journey, such as the heritage-listed shipwrecks and the State Abattoir. Using composite landscapes of Hong Kong and Homebush Bay, Celine reconstructs her family’s journey in a fantastical light — from crossing the Sham Chun River between China and Hong Kong, to factories that echo past industries in Sydney Olympic Park, and finally arriving at the aspirational area of Wentworth Point.
Through digital collages and immersive installation, Celine conjures up an imaginary threshold between life and death, inspired by dreams, Buddhist sigils, hostile architecture and celestial phenomena.
